Electrical schedule recovery begins by finding the constraint, not by ordering a larger crew. A project can be behind because labor is thin, but it can also be behind because work is unreleased, material is late, decisions queue, quality failures repeat, or energization boundaries changed. Build a two-week plan around executable work and named decisions.
Establish the factual variance
Compare baseline and current dates, planned and installed quantities, actual hours, remaining quantities, open inspections, deficiencies, and release gates by work package. Define the milestone at risk. Avoid one blended percent-complete number.
Classify the constraint
Sort blocked hours and remaining risk into labor capacity, skill mix, supervision, design, material, access, equipment, predecessor work, inspection, quality, safety control, or owner decision. Name the evidence and owner for each. Several causes may interact.
Protect the critical workfront
Choose the systems and areas that directly support the threatened milestone. Confirm drawings, material, access, lifts, permits, inspections, and downstream handoff. Move people from lower-priority work only through the project's change and coordination process.
Choose the recovery mechanism
Compare added crew, added foreman, second shift, approved overtime, resequencing, parallel zones, specialist support, or constraint removal. State prerequisites, expected quantity gain, lead time, and risks for each. More hours are useful only when work is ready.
Build a 14-day board
For every day, show work package, start gate, crew by role, target quantity, inspection, handoff, constraint owner, and decision deadline. Hold daily exception reviews. The board should fit the field conversation, not require a planner to interpret it.
Control quality and safety
Recovery does not waive hold points, authorization, LOTO, inspection, training, or site rules. Add QA/QC and leadership when work is compressed. Refer technical and safety decisions to qualified project authorities.
Measure leading signals
Track ready backlog, decision aging, material-kit completeness, first-pass quality, installed units per shift, and open test prerequisites. Schedule variance is a late signal. Leading measures show whether the recovery design is becoming executable.
Set exit criteria
Define when overtime, second shift, added supervision, or supplemental labor will end. Use accepted quantities, stable production, restored float, and handoff completion. Communicate ramp-down promptly and preserve coverage for punch and retest.

Daily recovery board questions
- What exact milestone remains at risk after the latest update?
- Which installed quantity proves the current variance by work package?
- Is tomorrow’s protected workfront fully released, supplied, and accessible?
- What constraint consumed the most potentially productive hours today?
- Who can remove that constraint before the next shift reports?
- Would added labor create output, or simply increase waiting in the area?
- Which specialty, leadership, inspection, or quality role is actually short?
- What accepted quantity did the recovery measure gain during this shift?
- Has schedule pressure changed any approved safety or energy-control boundary?
- Which temporary measure now meets its stated exit criterion?
- What lower-priority work can move without creating a second milestone problem?
- Who communicates tomorrow’s crew assignment and any changed report expectation?
Use a daily recovery decision tree
Start each review with one question: is the protected workfront executable for the next shift? If yes, compare confirmed crew and specialty coverage with the quantity target. If capacity is short, choose among added people, changed role mix, extended hours, or a parallel zone after required review. If the answer is no, route the blockage to material, design, access, inspection, equipment, predecessor work, or authorization and assign the earliest credible release.
Do not carry yesterday's remedy into today without evidence. A second shift that recovered pathway work may be the wrong tool once the constraint moves to inspections or test documentation. The fourteen-day board should show the migration. Mark the quantity gained, decision closed, first-pass acceptance, and remaining float so leaders can see whether recovery measures are earning their cost.
End each day by naming tomorrow's first protected task and the condition that could stop it. Communicate any crew change before travel or shift reporting is affected.
